Body Awareness Therapy
What Is It?
Body Awareness Therapy is an “evidence-based” physiotherapy method first developed in Sweden in the 1980s by psychoanalyst Dropsy and physiotherapist Roxendal. It takes a holistic approach to human movement that considers the physical, physiological, psychological and existential aspects of being human. Its training philosophy, built on this holistic view, covers fundamental functions such as postural stability (balance), natural breathing and awareness.
The exercises are based on everyday movements and are done lying down, sitting, standing or walking. Voice exercises and massage techniques applied over clothing are also part of the therapy.
